An Odessa Texas SEO Analysis

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

I thought it might be helpful to analyze the Google SERP for the key term “Odessa Texas”. If we Google that phrase, what will we find and what would a company have to do to capture the No. 1 spot for that phrase?

I’m going to focus on the top 5 listings because anything below that likely doesn’t get the kind of traffic that I’d want to get with a commercial website. The top 5 listings for “Odessa Texas” are:

  • The city of Odessa website
  • Wikipedia entry for Odessa, Texas
  • The Odessa Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • Odessa’s City-Data page
  • Odessa Chamber of Commerce

To capture the No. 1 spot for “Odessa Texas” would require a lot of work. I’m not saying it can’t be done but a webmaster would have to work awfully hard against the age factor and inbound links pointing to the above sites. You would be much better off targeting “Odessa Texas” and keywords related to your business. For instance, let’s say you own an antique shop in Odessa and you want to capture the No. 1 spot for “Odessa Texas antiques”. What would you need to do?

That would be a lot more feasible to attempt and if you are starting an antique website in Odessa, Texas, I’d say recommendable. The first thing I’d do is build a solid website with good on-page SEO. Secondly, I’d undergo a link building campaign using target keyword phrases as anchor text and point them to my most important web pages. I’d also start a blog on my domain and blog to it every day. A blog will fresh original content to your website every day and help you increase your on-page SEO strengths, giving you a vital and necessary content creation edge over your competition. I’ve actually seen companies take a No. 1 spot in Google within a year using that strategy. Your company in Odessa Texas can do it too.

Can You Respect An SEO Company That Doesn’t Rank For Its Own Key Terms?

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

An SEO company should rank for its key terms, right? Should you do business with one that doesn’t?

If you Google Texas SEO you’ll see that this blog has the No.3 spot below the sponsored listings. A little further down you’ll see our Blog Catalog listing as well. Still further, in position No. 9, you’ll see the Texas SEO website. Three out of ten ain’t bad, eh?

That’s the kind of respect that your SEO company should be earning. If your SEO company isn’t ranking for its key terms, do you really think they’ll be able to rank your site for your key terms? If you are a Texas-based company looking for real SEO results then try TexasSEO.net; optimize and rise.

Texas SEO: How To Integrate Local Search Marketing With State-Wide Marketing

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Can you integrate local search marketing with your state-wide Texas search marketing? Absolutely, but you’d better make a good plan.

Probably the biggest mistake Texas companies make is thinking they can run both state-wide search marketing campaigns and local search campaigns together side by side. You have to separate them.

  1. First step: Make a list of keywords you want to target
  2. Next, list the specific markets in Texas you want to geotarget
  3. Build landing pages for each specific market and keyword set
  4. Finally, drive traffic with targeted PPC, article marketing, blogs, and other SEO tools

Your Texas SEO campaign should be tiered. Start with your state-wide campaign and drill down from there. After you have built your Texas SEO website and used the search marketing tools at your disposal to drive traffic to your site, begin to geotarget specific Texas communities using the above steps as your guide. Do that for each market you want to target.

A separate landing page and marketing efforts for each individual marketing within Texas that you want to market to along with the proper keywords for your product or service will narrow your targeting to each specific market that you want to approach. It’s easier for traffic, you’ll get more conversions, and it will be the most focused marketing you’ve ever done in your life.

Texas SEO Through Back Linking

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

There are two ways to get excellent SEO benefit from back linking. The first way, which everyone by now knows about, is through traditional SEO with keywords related to your business niche as anchor text. Nothing really new.

The second way to get effective back links, and it’s not really new but many small business owners with a local presence aren’t really aware of it, is by using geographical place names along with your niche-related keywords as anchor text. You can do this in one of two ways:

  • Place geographical place names and keywords together in one anchor text (ex: Texas SEO)
  • Have two separate anchor text links

Inarguably, the first option is better. If you can swing it, you want to try to get your geographical place name together in your anchor text with your niche-related keyword. Here are a few examples:

  • Houston mechanic
  • Brazos County horse trainer
  • DFW courier service
  • Texas insurance company
  • West Texas cattle
  • Panhandle leather cutter

These are just a few examples. There are plenty more.

When it comes to geographical SEO for Texas companies like yours, call on the best advice you can get. Don’t settle for Lousy Annas, OK?

The Texas SEO Blues

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Are you singing the Texas SEO Blues? Are you wondering when your site is going to achieve the respectable rankings that your competition has built for itself? Are you hankering for another link building biscuit, but somebody else’s bacon and cheese omelet keeps getting in the way? Then you maybe it’s time for a re-evaluation of your SEO strategy.

Typically, website owners make decisions about what direction to move in with regard to their SEO and website design based on something a friend or relative told them instead of finding out what successful companies are doing that their not. If you are in need of SEO help or think your site could benefit from an evaluation then it wouldn’t hurt to have a professional SEO take a look at your website to see what it needs. Many times, it’s not even content on your site; it could just need more inbound links.

But unless you get an evaluation of where you now stand versus your goals then it will be difficult to assess just what kind of SEO you need for improvement. Maybe you need your content tweaked or maybe you need to work on your website architecture. Get your site evaluation today and stop singing the Texas SEO Blues.
